Unlike the usual set courses offered in restaurants, the Chinese New Year set menus at Tomo Izakaya features at least eight course authentic Japanese dishes which are meant to be shared among friends and family. All the sets come with appetizer, yu sheng, grilled dish, karaage items, rice dish, soup and dessert, as well as sake for tossing and pairing. This conviviality sets an izakaya apart from ordinary Japanese restaurants.
There are a total of three carefully curated festive menus available this Chinese New Year: $333 (Share 4 to 6 person); $666 (Share 6 to 8 person); and $888 (Share 8 to 10 person).
Start off your meal with an appetiser platter comprising Simmered Duck, Unagi with Cucumber, Marinated Octopus Wasabi, Edamame and Deep Fried Baby River Prawn (Available in $666 set menu). Moving on to the mains include delectable offerings such as Tenderly Braised Pork Soft Rib Bone with Japanese Rice Cake, Deep-fried Whole White Meat Fish with Yuzu-flavoured Sauce, Grilled Lobster with Walnut Miso and Grilled King Prawn with Spicy Cod. Sushi aficionados must try the Japanese tuna sushi which features toro, chutoro and red meat.

Another limelight of the festive menus is the innovative Japanese yusheng tower. The ingredients are gingerly stacked, layer by layer, to form a tower. Amaebi (sweet shrimp sashimi), tobiko (flying fish roe), kanpachi (Amberjack) and salmon are included. The yusheng comes in two sizes suitable for three to four pax ($66); and six to eight pax ($128). Premium add-ons such as Hokkaido hotate, chutoro and ikura are available in medium (additional $20) and large (additional $40) sizes.
