Hvala Waffle Bar - Waffle Desserts On The Go

Covering all your meals from breakfast to dinner and even for dessert, waffle are good to enjoy anytime of the day. But the question is, can you finish one waffle all by yourself? Some people can finish one to the last bite, while others may chose to share the waffle together with their friends. 

 At Hvala (means Thank you in Croatian) a fairly new waffle bar located at the basement of 313 @ Somerset offers straight up delish waffle specially made for one person. But of course, you can bring friends along to try more flavours without feeling the guilt. 
Hvala waffle bar run by a young couple Benmin and Lynette, stands out for its creativity and variety. Choose from Classic to the Fruitalicous selection ($3.50-$3.80) such as Apple Cinnamon, Bella Banana, Berries Delight and Strawberry Balsamico; or just go easy with Timeless Desserts like Creme Brulee, Tiramisu, Smurfy Smores and C is for Cookies.

 For those who wish to customise your own waffle, you can go creative with a base waffle at $2.50 and add-on a selection of sauces, frosting, and toppings from $0.50 onwards. The waffle batter and toppings are all prepared in-house using homemade recipes and the ingredients are freshly prepared each day. The waffles are baked into a bar shape and eaten off the stick, or you can just ask the friendly owners to cut them into bite-size pieces. 

  • Smurfy Smores ($3.80) - Chocolate fondue, flame-torched marshmallow and graham crumbs.
  • Tiramisu ($3.80) - Homemade tiramisu cream and chocolate shavings.
  • Apple Cinnamon ($3.50) - Fresh caramelised apples with pastry cream, salted caramel & cinnamon powder.
  • Bella Banana ($3.80) - Fresh caramelised bananas with pastry cream, chocolate syrup and crunchy peanuts. 
I tried four different waffle flavours in total, starting with Smurfy Smores and Tiramisu from Timeless Desserts, and lastly Apple Cinnamon and Bella Banana from Fruitalicious. There is no right or wrong when it comes to topping waffles. I like the intuitive combination of all the waffles, but personally prefer the latter, Apple Cinanamon and Bella Banana. The waffle interior is soft and slightly moist like freshly baked bread, while the exterior could have been more brownish crisp. 

 Some may desire their waffle to be paired with ice-cream, Hvala recommends a scoop of vanilla bean soft serve ice cream served on the side for $2.50 a cup (U.P. $3.00) or you can get the soft serve complimentary between 3pm to 6pm with any purchase of waffle.

 Although there are many places for waffles, Hvala offers a little more flexibility with their take-out concept allowing customers to eat on the go and save you really a lot of time.
