The Songkran Festival or better known as Water Festival is widely celebrated in Thailand as the traditional New Year's Day. If this is the first time you heard about Songkran Festival, then you may want to know more. Who knows? You might even be the lucky one to fly to Thailand to experience the grandest celebration.

Read on more to find out how you can win a holiday while dining at ThaiExpress.

ThaiExpress New Bites

ThaiExpress launched a Songkran menu which features four new dishes - Thai Style Salted Egg Calarami ($10.90); Songkran Chicken Wings ($10.90), Papaya Salad ($9.90) and Stir-fried Phuket Bee Hoon with Tiger Prawns ($16.90).

Fans of salted egg-yolks will certainly be in love with this Thai style Salted Egg Calamari. Take pleasure in delighting your appetite as you sink your teeth into these savoury squid rings, all enveloped in the sinful salted egg yolks with a slight tinge of basil and spiciness.

A noteworthy dish also a favourite of mine is the Phad Mee Phuket - Stir-fried Thai-Style Bee Hoon served with Tiger Prawns. Three whole portions of tiger prawns and bee hoon is stir-fried with the chef's homemade sweet and sour sauce along with notes of fresh coconut.

The other two dishes both starters are good for sharing - Deep fried Songkran Chicken Wings sprinkled with crispy basil leaves, fried garlic flakes, and dried chilli; and Som Tum Papaya Salad is one the pillars of Thai food, this evergreen appetiser is made from freshly shredded Thai green papaya, carrots and chilli padi, then mixed well with a specially concocted sauce.
