In celebration of its 35th year, Ponggol Nasi Lemak launched its third outlet located in a two-storey conservation shophouse along Jalan Besar Road last year in December. This flagship store features a contemporary fast-food concept, but without compromising on taste. Designed for the comfort of its customers, this new contemporary outlet is fully air-conditioned and features a modern food ordering system.
Diners may browse through menus located at the counters and on the walls before placing their orders with the staff. An automated system has been invested and operationally in place to help boost speed and efficiency for the frontline, as well as in the kitchen while maintaining consistency in quality.
Ponggol Nasi Lemak has introduced four set menu offerings which are popular among the working crowd, available exclusively at this new outlet. For those who wish to customise their nasi lemak, you can choose from the range of all-time favourite dishes, and add-on premium house specials which are freshly prepared upon order.
The owners at Ponggol Nasi Lemak personally undertake the task of preparing the famous secret-recipe sambal (fried chilli paste) and oversees the cooking of the iconic nasi lemak (coconut rice), ensuring the consistency of taste and flavour is served to its customers.
When it comes to a standard Nasi Lemak, it is about coconut rice, chicken wing and sambal. At Ponggol Nasi Lemak, you can also chose your favourite items such as luncheon meat, fried egg, ikan billis & peanuts, homemade achar, spicy shrimp floss, otah-otah, curry vegetables and more.
New Premium House Specialities
Additional seven new Premium house specialities has been added to the menu only for the customers at this flagship outlet. The updated menu also includes a new home-brewed beverage and first time making an appearance at Ponggol Nasi Lemak will be a myriad of homemade sorbet and ice cream.
Grilled Japanese Squid with Special Sauce ($7.50/piece) - Air flown squid from Japan is gently grilled and served with a robust dip of kicap manis (Indonesian sweet sauce), soy sauce, garlic, shallots, lime and chilli.
Signature Ngoh Hiang ($1.50/piece) - This deep fried roll is made using the Ang's family recipe. Minced pork, water chestnuts and chives are seasoned with the house-blend five spice powder before the mixture is wrapped in bean curd skin and deep fried. Crispy Battered Whole Prawn ($3.80/two pieces) and Crispy Battered Fish Fillet ($3.80/two pieces) - Ponggol Nasi Lemak only uses live prawns for this dish and the leather jacket fish is bought fresh and filleted in house, before it is battered, deep fried to crisp perfection and served with house-made minty aioli dip.
Crispy Chicken Skin with Curry Leaves ($1.50/serving; $4.70/tub for sharing) - Preparation for this dish is a meticulous and time-consuming process, but the result is well-worth the effort. Fat is carefully removed from the under skin before it is triple-fried, ensuring that it stay crisp for a longer time. The skin is then tossed with kicap manis (Indonesian sweet sauce), black pepper, curry leaves and local spices.
The other premium house specialities not featured here is the Premium Baby Shrimp Cracker ($1.60/two pieces) where delicate shrimp is glued to thin spring roll skins with squid paste before deep-fried; and Signature Seafood Dumpling ($1.60/two pieces) made from fish paste, minced chicken and sweetcorn wrapped in dumpling skin and deep-fried to a crisp finish.
Homemade Sorbet and Ice Cream ($2.50/cup) - Comes in a variety of flavours and made from fresh fruits with no added colouring or preservatives. Sorbet selections include Raspberry Mango, Lemongrass Lime, Pink Guava, Kyoho Grape, Passion Fruit and Blood Orange. While the house-made ice creams available here are Milo, Horlicks, Peanut Butter Milk and Green Tea.
Homemade Hibiscus Ice Tea ($1.90/cup) - Dried hibiscus flowers are carefully selected and brewed daily in-house to make this refreshing drink. The hibiscus flower is high in anti-oxidants and attributed to aid with digestion and improving blood circulation.
